Narendra Pokhari was named after his master, Nakhaposi Narendra Mahapatra, and was established by King Bhanu Narasingh Dev of the Ganga Dynasty. In the centre of the tank lies a small temple known as Chandana Mandapa, which is connected by a bridge to the southern side. Every year, at Narendra Pokhari, the well-known Chandana Yatra is held. During this event, all the gods are brought out of their temples, given Chandana, and bathed in the sacred water of this tank.
