The temple’s step well, one of India’s 75 recognised water heritage sites, has now earned this name. This year, on the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence, the Ministry of Water Resources declared these bodies of water as heritage sites. Scholars believe that the temple pond holds historical and architectural importance, with Vastu-based design features dating back about 1,500 years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This recognition is a sign of the pond\u2019s historical and architectural significance.Someone built the pond around 1500 years ago.. The key feature of the pond as a step well is the architectural elements based on Vastu. In 2001, the Peralassery Subramanya Temple restored the pond.The temple is located on the picturesque banks of the river Anjarakandi<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Not only has the pond, locally known as \u2018ayyavyal pond\u2019, survived, but it has also found its place in the entertainment circuit, as films and albums feature it.The Ministry\u2019s Jal Shakti initiative is in line with its mission of protecting the country\u2019s most historic water bodies. The pond is located 75 cents from the state capital, Jaipur, on the banks of the Indravur River. It is situated southwest of the famous Peralassi-Subramanya temple. Like the step wells found in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, as well as in Rajasthan and Gujarat, this ancient structure has no documented records of its origin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The temple, with a history of over 15 centuries, adds to the attraction of the site situated on the river banks in the northern state of North Kerala. “The temple committee carried out a thorough renovation in 2001 to preserve the architectural and archaeological value of the pond,” said Murali. “The renovation aimed to preserve the historical values of the temple and the architectural value of the pond which is based on Vastu.”<\/p>\n
